GPTranslate for Shopify - Privacy Policy
GPTranslate for Shopify Privacy Policy: what we do and how we use your data.
Last updated: 2026-10-06

This Privacy Policy explains what information the GPTranslate app for Shopify ("GPTranslate", "the app") collects, how it is used and with whom it is shared. It applies to merchants who install the app on their Shopify store and to the visitors of those stores.

GPTranslate is developed and operated by JExtensions Store, Marco Biagioni, Loc. Pianacce 148/b Lucca - Italy ("we", "us").

What the app does.
GPTranslate translates the content of a Shopify store into other languages using a translation engine chosen by the merchant, stores the translations so they can be reused and edited, registers them in Shopify as native translations, and shows a language selector on the storefront.

Information we collect from merchants.
When you install the app, we receive from Shopify and store on our servers:
  • Store identification: the myshopify.com domain of your store.
  • Access token: the token Shopify issues so the app can work with your store within the permissions you approved. It is stored encrypted.
  • Subscription plan: the plan your store is on (Free, Basic or Pro).
  • Translations: the original texts of your store pages and their translations, with the address of the page they belong to.
  • Technical records: which translations the app wrote to your store, kept so that the app can update or remove only its own translations.
  • API keys of translation services: if you choose a translation engine that requires your own API key, the key is stored encrypted and is never sent to the storefront or to visitors' browsers.
  • Session data: while you use the app inside the Shopify admin, a short-lived technical session record may include your IP address and browser type. It expires automatically.
The app settings you choose are saved in your own Shopify store, as app data.

We do not collect your name, your personal email address, your payment details or any other personal profile information. Billing for paid plans is handled entirely by Shopify.

Shopify permissions used by the app.
The app requests only the following access:
  • read products and collections;
  • read online store content: pages, blogs and blog posts;
  • read the languages enabled in your store;
  • read and write translations.
Shopify may describe the content permission as including "store owner" and "blog contributors". This is because blog posts carry an author. The app does not use author or staff information.

Customer data.
GPTranslate does not access, collect or store data about your customers. It has no access to customers, orders, addresses, payments or any other protected customer information.

Shopify requires every app to respond to customer data requests and customer deletion requests. Because the app holds no customer data, there is nothing to return or delete in response to those requests.

Store visitors.
The language selector runs in the browser of the people who visit your store. For those visitors:
  • No cookies and no tracking. The app does not set cookies, does not build visitor profiles and does not use analytics or advertising tools.
  • Language preference. The language a visitor selects is remembered in the browser's own local storage, on the visitor's device. It is not sent to us as an identifier.
  • Requests to our servers. To load and save translations, the selector contacts our servers through the Shopify app proxy. These requests contain the page address, the language and the texts to translate. We do not use them to identify visitors and our application does not keep logs of them.
  • Flag images. The small flag icons shown in the selector are loaded from storejextensions.org. As with any image on the web, the server receives the visitor's IP address in order to deliver the file.

Third-party services.
To translate your content, the app sends the text of your store pages to the translation engine you select in the app settings. Depending on your choice, this is one of:
  • Google (Google Translate, Gemini, Google Cloud Translation)
  • OpenAI
  • Anthropic (Claude)
  • DeepSeek
  • xAI (Grok)
  • DeepL
The text sent is the public content of your storefront: titles, descriptions, menus, buttons and similar. If your store pages contain personal information, that information is part of the text sent for translation. Each provider processes the text under its own terms and privacy policy. For engines that need an API key, the request is made with your own key and under your own account with that provider.

Requests made from the visitor's browser. When the free Google engine is used, translation requests are sent by default directly from the visitor's browser to Google. In that case Google receives the text to translate together with the visitor's IP address, as with any direct connection. You can change this in the app settings with the option "Send Google AI requests through the app server": when it is on, the requests are sent from our server and Google does not receive the visitor's IP address.

Voice reader. If you enable the optional voice reader, the text of the page is sent to ResponsiveVoice to be converted to speech when a visitor presses the play button. The request is made from the visitor's browser, so ResponsiveVoice receives the text and the visitor's IP address. The voice reader is off unless you turn it on.

We do not sell data and we do not share it with anyone for advertising or marketing purposes.

Where data is stored.
Our servers and database are located in Italy, European Union. Access tokens and API keys are stored encrypted. All communication between the app, Shopify and your storefront uses encrypted connections (HTTPS).

Our application does not keep activity logs in production. Our hosting provider may keep standard web server access logs for security and operational purposes.

How long we keep data.
  • We keep the information described above for as long as the app is installed on your store.
  • When you uninstall the app, the access token is deleted immediately and the app can no longer reach your store.
  • Shopify sends a deletion request 48 hours after an uninstall. When we receive it, we delete your store record, your saved translations and the related technical records from our database.
  • If you install the app again before that deletion takes place, your translations and settings are kept.
Translations that the app registered in your Shopify store as native translations are part of your store's own data. They stay in your store after you uninstall the app and you can manage or remove them from the Shopify admin.

Your role and ours.
For the content of your store and for the visitors of your storefront, you are the data controller and we act as a data processor on your behalf, processing the text only to provide the translation service. You are responsible for informing your visitors, in your own privacy policy, about the services used on your storefront, including the translation engine and the voice reader if you enable it.

Your rights.
You can ask us at any time to access, correct, export or delete the information we hold about your store, by writing to This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it . If you are in the European Economic Area or the United Kingdom, you also have the right to object to or restrict processing and to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.

You can also delete your translations yourself at any time from the Translations page of the app.

Changes to this policy.
We may update this policy when the app changes or when the law requires it. The date at the top of the page shows when it was last updated. Significant changes will be announced in the app or on this page.
