-Version 1.9 - 12/09/2026
- New Disqus (XML) import adapter: import comments directly from a Disqus export, automatically matching each Disqus thread to the corresponding Joomla article by URL alias, rebuilding the full parent/reply comment hierarchy, and linking guest authors to existing Joomla user accounts when the name match is unambiguous
- New Guest Avatar Gallery: administrators can enable an image gallery of avatars that non-logged-in visitors can pick from when posting a comment, independent from the existing avatar system used for registered users; the last avatar picked is remembered for the visitor's session so it's pre-selected on their next comment
- New colored-initials fallback avatar (Disqus-style): when no picture avatar is available for a commenter, JComment can now generate a colored circle with the person's initials instead of a generic placeholder
- Fixed missing article title/link in the backend Comments and Objects list for comments imported through the migration tools
- Fixed missing avatar column in some frontend comment queries (comment form and "latest comments" module)
- Various bug fixes and stability improvements
HOW DISQUS IMPORT WORKS
- Export your comments from Disqus (Disqus admin panel -> Export -> you'll receive a .xml file by email)
- Upload that .xml file into your Joomla site's /tmp folder (via FTP or your hosting file manager) - no need to rename it, any .xml file recognized as a Disqus export is picked up automatically
- Go to Components -> JComment -> Import comments: a new "Disqus (XML)" source will appear with the number of comments ready to be imported
- Click Import. Only comments belonging to a Disqus thread that matches an existing Joomla article (by URL alias) are imported - Disqus threads with no matching article are skipped
- Guest commenters are imported as guests unless their Disqus display name matches exactly one existing Joomla user account, in which case the comment is linked to that account

-Version 2.0 - 26/10/2026
- Security: image and file uploads now enforce the IMG and FILE permissions on the server side, images are verified by content and saved with a safe, unique name, SVG images are cleaned from scripts and external references, and uploaded files are never overwritten (a counter is added to a duplicated name)
- Security: the HTML kept in comments is now sanitized, also in the backend comments list and in the latest comments module
- Security: the download of comment attachments is now restricted to the files of the comment folder
- New option "Load comments when visible": when the comments are loaded through AJAX, they are requested only when the comments area scrolls into view or the visitor interacts with it, so readers who never reach the comments no longer trigger the extra request
- New option "Send notifications" (Immediately / By cron only): with "By cron only" visitors never wait for notification emails, which are sent by a cron job; when it is selected, the Settings page shows the cron address already filled in with your site URL and secret, with a copy button and ready-to-use examples for Linux, cPanel, Plesk and Windows
- Notification emails are now sent over a single SMTP connection per batch instead of opening a new connection for every message
- Faster comment pages with avatar integrations (Community Builder, Kunena, Membership Pro, K2 and others): the avatars of all the commenters of a page are loaded with a single query instead of two queries for every comment
- The Disqus import now keeps the formatting of the imported comments (bold, italic, lists, links, quotes, code and images) and stores line breaks like native comments
- Frontend language strings for the guest avatar gallery added for fr-FR, de-DE, es-ES and it-IT
- Various bug fixes and stability improvements
