Hi Bob,

there is not a procedure to fix a 404. It depends on the reason why a 404 page exists on your site and which component triggers it.

The correct way is to analyze the link and fix it. After that you are sure that the 404 doesn't exist anymore on your site you can 'mark as fixed' in Google Webmasters.
