Google Error with Sitemap Karma: 0  
In Webmaster tools I see this error: General HTTP error: Domain name not found for my sitemap. I am not sure that I have the site configured properly - the joomla site is in a subfolder of the primary domain. The robots.txt file is in the joomla site folder.

Are there special configs needed with this config? I hope not because I want to host multiple domains under the primary domain.

Hi Bill, i don't think special config are required, if Google states the domain name is not found it sounds like the link is wrong.

Try to open the sitemap link you try to submit in your browser... you can easily test if the link is ok.

If you have multiple subsites under a main domain each on different Joomla installation, you need to install and submit a sitemap for each different site and domain, nothing more.

Thanks. I can access the site map using the URL but I still get the error.

Here is the link: www.joomla-dev.com/component/jmap/sitemap/xml that Google has listed.
I don't know where to go from here.

The link is right and working,

Eventually ensure that in GWT you are copying only the last part component/jmap/sitemap/xml , because Google already append the domain suffix http://www.joomla-dev.com/

As an alternative, try to submit the not SEF version of the sitemap link:
index.php?option=com_jmap&view=sitemap&format=xml
