Google indexing tester Karma: 1
Hi,

In the google indexing tester it shows 10 pages of indexed titles. Most of these are really old and do not exist. What can I do about this?

Thanks

Hi,

what you can do is providing great titles for pages so that Google will take them in consideration. But you can't fully control them because Google do it by yourself.
Refer to this FAQ please: http://storejextensions.org/faq/why-google-shows-a-different-title-for-my-pages-in-the-serps.html

Hi John,

Thanks for the quick reply. I don't think I explained myself very well. I understand what you are talking about, but the issue I am talking about is that apparently google is indexing pages that don't exist. Please see attached file.

Thanks

Well so this is another matter. But has nothing to do with sitemaps.

If you want to remove certain pages from indexing you have to use the robots.txt to disallow them.

Cheers,
John

Hi John,

So not to belabor the point but even if the pages don't exist anywhere on the planet I have to disallow them?

Well this makes no sense of course
If a search engine indexes a page on your website it means that somewhere it found the link. I'm not aware that Google is able to invent links
