Problem with ACL for updates Karma: 0
Hi,

An admin user without super-user rights just clicked "update" on the JSiteMap control panel. Unfortunately the files were write-locked and the update failed with a warning saying there was a permission problem. However, the JSiteMap control panel now thinks that the latest software is installed, which is not the case.

Please can you fix the following?

  • the update should NOT show for anyone without the correct rights to install software

  • ACL needs to stop people without correct rights installing software. This is a security problem.

  • If the update fails because it can't write files, the version number should not be incremented in the extensions table

It might be best to just use the standard Joomla update mechanism, which would solve these issues.

Hi,

for the full list of ways to update the component including the standard Joomla update refer to this FAQ: https://storejextensions.org/faq/how-can-i-update-the-component.html

We can limit the additional control panel button(that is a plus) to ACL users in the next release, thanks for the suggestion.

Thanks, John,

Will you be also be fixing the update bug, where the version number increments in the light of an update failure?

Also, could you provide some guidance on how to fix our system and re-apply the latest update? Should be just install over the top?

Really this is something never happened before, to revert the version number however you should change it in the manifest file root/administrator/components/com_jmap/jmap.xml in the tag:
<version>4.3.2</version>

Obviously having writable files it's enough to upload and reinstall the latest over the top.

I'll unlock the files and reinstall over the top.

Thank you for your help.
