No that won't work as i said you, that's a parameter done for extensions using the standard Joomla ACL.
I've just added a new option to the plugin to filter products using a public 'all' field of the database, under 'plugin configuration' -> 'Include only 'Public' products'

To get it you have to delete the data source, download the plugin again and reinstall.
