Clicking on "Show HTML Sitemap" displays my home page. No Sitemap.

I've no clue without some more details, it could depend on 1000 reasons.

As a first attempt, instead that clicking directly on the button "Show HTML Sitemap", try to create a menu item linking the sitemap component and check if you get it in this way.

Most probably it's a templating issue. If you are using Gantry 5, ensure that the component output is enabled.
Otherwise you won't get anything when a component is dispatched, but only modules.

Would you know how to enable component output for this? I've looked through the settings on the assigned template. Changed layouts, etc. Still can't get it to work with the html sitemap.

Gantry 5 is what I use on all of my sites, and haven't run into this.
