I like to place a sitemap as a 404 page. but just before the sitemap some text to explain that this is a 404 page, and after te sitemap some text to explain further or to say thank you.

Is there a way I can place things before and after ? Or is there a fast way to include a sitemap in a K2 article ?

to change the HTML sitemap you can use Joomla overrides, because the sitemap rendering is based on Joomla tpl files.
However this will affect the whole HTML layout for the sitemap.

If you need to have a different layout for the HTML showed only when the 404 page is rendered, i could think to another solution using Joomla modules. It's possible wrap the sitemap inside a module following explanations available in the pdf documentation.
After that if the 404 page is rendered using a K2 article and if K2 supports the classic {loadposition} it should be possible recall the module with the sitemap inside that article.
