I am using Link-Assistant's Website Auditor to help with my SEO. It tells me Google will mark me down for not having a sitemap.xml in the root directory. Since I am using JSitemap Pro, should I be concerned about this?

Hi Ed,

this is normal because online SEO validator are only able to check existance of a static file for the sitemap in the root of the server named sitemap.xml.

This is a deprecated solution that leads to manually edit the sitemap file everytime there is a change. Using solution suc as JSitemap the sitemap is dynamically generated in realtime using the component link and is submitted to search engines through the robots.txt.

The only thing you need to ensure is that the sitemap entry is present in your robots.txt.

How do I verify the sitemap entry is present in the robots.txt? What am I looking for?

Clicking on the pen icon the entry for the XML sitemap is automatically added to the robots.txt.

After that you can open the robots.txt editor and you will find the entry at the bottom of the file.
