Facebook login changes existing Joonla! user password Karma: 0
Hi again.
Am I doing something wrong, or this is something that cannot be prevented?
If I am an existing Joomla user and I login with Facebook login, the password of the user is changed and he cannot login with the Joomla core login component again.
I know that Facebook api creates random passwords for the user to login, but is there a way to prevent that random password to be inserted in the users sql table?
Is there a fix for that?
Thanks in advance.

Hi again,
this is something not expected of course. We have no other cases reported.
When the parameter below 'Match existing user' is enabled, if a user login through Facebook using an email address already registered in Joomla, a random password is generated to allow the social login on the fly but the original Joomla password is not altered.
If this happens on your website i've no clue about the reason, eventually you can disable the parameter 'Match existing user'.

Thanks,
John

Does it have anything to do with the parameter "Identification type"? I have it in "Email Address",

I just found that this happens only with super administrator users...
I don't know why. Maybe you will have to take a look at that.
No problem with just registered uses.

Thanks to inform us and other users.
We ran some tests and it looks that the problem occurs only with users assigned to 1 single group 'Super Users'
Probably Joomla prevents to restore the password for security reasons.
A quick fix is assigning those users to more than 1 single group, for example 'Registered' and 'Super Users'
If something better can be done will be merged in the next release.

Thanks,
John

I tried registered - super user, and author - super user. I doesn't work, unfortunately.
