Hello Trina,

not sure what you are attempting to do but the chat app should not be linked to a menu item. It works rendering the sidebar on the right of the screen as soon as installed, that should be all.

Menu items are only used to access the conference and form view to join the chat.
As a side note, Joomla 1.7 is very old and should be replaced by Joomla 2.5
