jchat embedding as its own page instead of sidebar? Karma: 0
Hi I just bought your jchat extension last night and i was hoping that i could incorporate it as its own page on my joomla. In other words, instead of having the sidebar feature, is it possible to have a link in my menu titled CHAT ROOM and then when people click on it, it would take them to a different page in my joomla where the chat room would be 'embedded'?

If that is not possible, then would it be possible to set it up as a module on the homepage of the website?

If either of these options are possible, can someone please explain to me how?

Thanks in advance for helping me.
Don

Hi Don,

having it as a component linked to a menu is possible only for certain views, for example the private messaging view, you find the available component views when you create a new menu item.

Although the main purpouse of the app is to have a sidebar rendering, it's also possible to manage it as a module. There are detailed explanations about this in the PDF docs at the paragraph 'Chat rendering'

I've written a very detailed PDF docs so that referring to that you will find almost everything you need to know on this app.

Best regards
John

Thanks for the quick reply John. I tried following the docs but couldn't seem to get it to work that way. Having said that, i am using a theme from rockettheme under the gantry 5 framework they have. I'm wondering if that may have something to do with it

I don't think that Gantry 5 makes any difference in the Joomla modules management. However try to perform some tests using even the default standard template.

i feel kinda stupid for not thinking of that before. I'll be sure to give you the feedback as to whether it worked in the default template or not. Thanks

Try this:

- Change JChat mode to operate as a module instead of in the footer
- Edit your JChat module and change the module position name to "livechat"
- In your "Live Chat" article, embed the module using {loadposition livechat}
