I am using url - https://wightshops.com/index.php?option=com_jmap&view=sitemap&format=xml
But it changes to https://wightshops.com/component/jmap/sitemap/xml
I have added the text link in a standard Joomla content page and add url link http://nimb.ws/d2xz7y

Confused as to why the url changes

You have confused me too

Normally you should use a footer menu and link with a menu item the HTML sitemap not the XML sitemap... what you are doing is a bit weird.

The footer should have this link:
https://wightshops.com/index.php?option=com_jmap&view=sitemap

to show an end user sitemap tree.

XML is only for search engines.

I have completed a number of joomla websites and learnt, from reading forums etc that I should submit a xml sitemap to search engines
I thus presumed that it should be the same sitemap placed on the site so that when the search engine crawled the site it would find the same sitemap and regsiter any changes/updates in the sitemap
Are you saying that I should submit the xml to search engines and then an html on the site itself
Any teachings you may have on sitemaps, their functions and useage, would be much appreciated as it seems I have been doing it all wrong for ages.
